Today (January 29, 2025) is the first day of Chinese New Year, which is the year of “snake” in the Chinese calendar. If I’m superstitious, this is a “very bad year” for me who was born in the year of snake! True enough, I was tested with dengue positive on January 17, in the transition towards a “bad new year”! It was the first time in my life that I was stung by the Aedes mosquito unknowingly where and when…

However, I have Jesus in my life which makes a real difference despite the superstitious belief of “bad zodiac animal year”! By the blood of Jesus, we have the authority from the Most High God to break any superstitious beliefs, chains or bondages.

I was admitted to Setapak Columbia Asia Hospital on January 18. As I was lying on the hospital bed in the emergency room and looking up at the top of the cubicle curtain, I realized it was the same place where my son was admitted 12 years ago (which was also a year of "snake") when he had a fit with high fever, the first outbreak! It was very painful when I saw the nurse pouring icy cold water on his body to reduce his temperature. It broke my heart to see my baby being “tortured” in such a manner that I was unable to help him… How I wish to replace him during that moment of suffering!

I don’t want to stay in this hospital alone as it reminds me of many painful memories with my son when he was sick. I just kept telling myself that Jesus loves me. Even if I am alone in the hospital, all I need to remember is Jesus loves me, that’s enough!

As I was waiting for the blood test result, I felt hungry and asked the nurse to order porridge for me. Do you know that a sign of hunger is a sign of recovery?

While I was still halfway eating the tasteless hospital porridge, the doctor came in and told me, “You are dengue negative. Your platelet is okay.” What??? Yes! Indeed, the blood test result was in front of my eye! How could it be false? When we get a bad medical report, we even try to ignore it but believe God is in control! But now, I got a good medical report, how can I ignore it! This is no other than the miracle healing hand of God! Hallelujah!!!

I was discharged within 3 hours! I was not even warded yet! God knows my heart, He knows I wanted to go home so much to be with my daughter who has no other dependent except me!

Dengue could be life-threatening in the case of dengue hemorrhagic fever with internal bleeding and plasma leaking. Usually, most people are hospitalized between 2-7 days with the symptoms of high fever, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, gum bleeding, etc. However, I only had fevers and was discharged within 3 hours! All glory to God!

I remember on the second night of fever before knowing I had dengue, the Holy Spirit spoke to me when I was in bed. He told me that He had healed me, and immediately I felt my body was very light. Interestingly, the Holy Spirit told me twice to make sure I heard Him. The next day, I tested dengue positive. I guess God wanted to prove to me that despite being infected with dengue (with the blood test report), He can heal me and alleviate me from extensive suffering of all the symptoms of dengue! Praise the Lord for He is my mighty Healer! Jesus is truly Jehovah Rapha!

Being a Christian doesn’t mean being “problem-free”; but a true follower of Christ would have the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the challenging situations in life, as Jesus told us in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

May the peace and love of our Lord Jesus, the Lord of Sabbath, always surround you in this lunar new year no matter what zodiac animal year it is! We just need to Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
